Your Archetype is a symbol that represents your personal power. It serves as a touchstone back to your sense of identity and who you are. But what really is Archetypology? And how did it come to be?
Back when I was in university, my mental health was not looking so hot. These were maybe some of the hardest years of my life and I was having eight panic attacks a day on average (news flash, that is not the state of a functioning human). I rememeber sitting in my bed in my off campus dorm and thinking "I am not doing this anymore."
And that simple, deliberate decision was the beginning of Archetypology.
And so the reseach began. I think I ordered about 10 self help books that day and devoured them in the course of a week. I was determined.
Somthing you need to know about me is I have ALWAYS been a witch...
A quick note: I was no stranger to magick and witchery when I first started the journey to creating Archetypology. I have always been a witch, even before I knew being a witch was like...a thing.
I was lucky enough to grow up in a household where my parents gave me the freedom to explore my spirituality and never discouraged me from this. When I was 6 years old I was collecting rocks and assigning them meanings and carrying specific "magic rocks" with me to bring those things into my life. I was doing crystal magic before I even knew what crystal magic was!
This meant that I also bought my first ever witchcraft book at the age of about 10 and became certified in crystal healing at 16. But I never fully connected to the Magick I was reading and learning about. There was something...missing...for me.
Cut Back to my University Mental Health Crisis...
After pouring through all of these self help books and booking myself some therapy sessions I began seeking something more. I wanted to create a system for myself that was a combination of the positive psychology I was learning about in my classes and the parts of Magick that spoke to my soul. Then I rememebered something...
Back when I was in highschool I did this assignement where I had to do a self portrait of myself as a psychological archetype. This process had been completely transformative for me and rooted me back into my identity. So I dug out my old notes and got to work.
As I was researching though, I found that the Archetype systems that currently existed were a little outdated. They were mostly focused on the perspective of Men with little love for Women and completely exluded non-binary folks.
So, I created my own system of Archetypes. I spent my undergraduate degree creating quizzes, doing surveys and talking about Archetypes to anyone that would listen in order to refine my system into 12 Archetypes that best represent Women and Non-Binary folk today. Then I built out a system of Magick around it for both my own personal practice and for others.
This is how the idea of Archetypes grew into Archetypology: a system of magick grounded in psychology with a sense of humor.
Archetypology is a system of Magick that I created with a focus on mental health. It is my own personal practice that I found works for me and those around me. And therefore it changes and grows and can be altered to suit you and your personal practice.
